ECB and Frankfurt Radio Symphony Invite the Public to Europa Open Air Concert on 20 August 2026

On August 20, 2026, the European Central Bank (ECB), in collaboration with Hessischer Rundfunk, is set to host the much-anticipated Europa Open Air concert at Weseler Werft in Frankfurt. This free event promises a celebration of Europe’s rich diversity through an engaging mix of music and cultural activities, illustrating the ECB’s commitment to connecting with its host city.

The concert’s lineup features performances from the Frankfurt Radio Big Band, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony, as well as internationally acclaimed artists like Grammy-winning jazz vocalist Kurt Elling and the master accordionist Richard Galliano. Additional details regarding the performances can be accessed via Hessischer Rundfunk’s official website.

ECB President Christine Lagarde emphasized the concert’s intent, stating, “Europa Open Air celebrates the richness of Europe’s cultural life and the connections that bring us together. Music creates a shared experience that transcends borders and reminds us of what connects us as Europeans.” This year’s event will also provide attendees with an opportunity to engage with ECB representatives regarding the design of future euro banknotes.

In conjunction with the concert, the ECB will set up an information booth focused on the upcoming changes to euro banknotes. Visitors will be able to peruse ten shortlisted design proposals that are currently under consideration, reflecting two themes: “European culture” and “Rivers and birds.” This interactive aspect will allow concert-goers to discuss the proposals with ECB experts and contribute their opinions directly at the event.

Admission to the concert is free, with gates opening at 16:00. This initiative not only highlights the cultural tapestry of Europe but also aims to foster dialogue between the ECB and the public on important financial themes.
