Crypto-Asset Monitoring: Insights from the Experts
This paper presents a comprehensive overview of the analytical efforts led predominantly in 2025 by experts from various European central banks. These insights were displayed at the Crypto-Asset Monitoring Expert Group (CAMEG) conference, focusing on the monitoring of crypto-assets and their implications for central banking. As of now, the risks associated with crypto-assets are deemed limited and manageable, thanks in part to existing regulatory and oversight frameworks.
Nonetheless, the significance of ongoing monitoring, heightened awareness of potential risks, and the enhancement of analytical preparedness remains paramount. The activities of CAMEG during 2025 are highlighted, showcasing the collaboration of experts from the European System of Central Banks and the European Banking Authority. This document also includes abstracts of various CAMEG-related papers and other analytical works discussed at the conference convened on 30 and 31 October 2025.
The conference served as a platform to consolidate analytical work and tackle data-related challenges within the realm of crypto-assets, fostering collaboration across Europe. Moving forward, this paper delineates a strategic plan for CAMEG, with a focus on deepening analytical endeavors concerning interlinkages, the adoption of crypto-assets, and the unfolding trends in the digital asset landscape.
The discussions highlighted critical themes and presented data that encourages a more profound understanding of the influence and growth of crypto-assets, in light of ongoing technological advancements. Such efforts are pivotal for informed policy-making and ensuring financial stability amidst the evolving financial ecosystem.
It is essential to recognize that while crypto-assets present potential opportunities for innovation and growth, they also carry inherent risks that must be managed through continuous monitoring and diligent oversight. The future trajectory of CAMEG will seek to enhance data interpretation and analytical capabilities in this ever-evolving field, ensuring a balance between innovation and regulatory vigilance.
